Last year, the Galaxy S22 series debuted, and Samsung decided to shift the focus to using Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 across most regions. This year, with the Galaxy S23, the company ditched the Exynos chipset altogether, and all variants of the devices came with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. However, over the past couple of months, we have been hearing about Samsung coming back next year with Exynos 2400, and today, we have a hint from an executive.
Samsung really wants to go back to the Exynos 2400 for the Galaxy S24
Samsung published its quarterly revenues for 2023, and after going through terrible losses in some divisions, the company is looking to change that. The news is coming from none other than a top executive at Samsung LSI that the Exynos series is looking to come back in the flagship segment.
During an earnings call, a Samsung executive said, “The MX (Mobile Experience) division is a major customer and aims to develop business with a product lineup that can be applied to all segments of the Galaxy series. We are also working on re-entry,” when asked about Galaxy S24 getting an Exynos offering.
This is not the first time we are hearing about Samsung returning next year with its Exynos chipsets. There have been rumors about the Exynos 2400 in the past, and almost every day, we are hearing that Samsung might actually use the chipset in Galaxy S24. A recent rumor also suggested that the Galaxy S24 could end up using the Exynos 2400 in the base variant of the device, while the Plus and Ultra variants will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Samsung could also go for a limited run in certain regions to test out the waters and see whether or not the Exynos 2400 is something that delivers a decent performance compared to its counterpart. Of course, it is too early to say anything since the phones are going to release next year, and we still have time before we can say anything for sure.
One thing is for sure, after today's earning call, it is safe to say that Samsung is more focused on delivering a better Exynos chipset for smartphones. After the terrible Exynos 2100 and 2200, the company really needs a win, and this could be the right moment to actually deliver something that performs just as good as the Snapdragon offerings.
