Samsung has always reserved LTPO, or low-temperature polycrystalline oxide displays, for its top-tier flagships, and this year, it was the Galaxy S23 Ultra, giving it several benefits over the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus. Fortunately, the Korean giant has likely learned its lesson, and according to one rumor, the same panels that would have been developed exclusively for the Galaxy S24 Ultra are now said to be found on the less expensive versions, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus.
With the LTPO upgrade, the refresh rate on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus can go down to as low as 1Hz
In addition to featuring slimmer bezelslike the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Ice Universe has commented once more on Twitter that LTPO technology will debut on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. First and foremost, LTPO panels are more advanced than their LTPS counterparts, which is why Apple exclusively uses them in its ‘Pro’ family of iPhones. They are also more energy-efficient, meaning that the less expensive members of Samsung’s 2024 flagship lineup will be able to deliver more battery life compared to the previous models.
Smartphones with LTPO screens can also reduce refresh rates to their absolute lowest range to conserve battery life. Where the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus displays could only go down to 48Hz and increase to 120Hz when required, this upgrade will allow the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus to take their refresh rate values down to 1Hz. This dynamic switching of the refresh rate depends on what is being shown on the smartphone’s display, so for instance, if there is a static image present, that refresh rate will automatically go down to 1Hz to consume less battery power.
Yes, Galaxy S24/24+ uses LTPO screen.

However, one major reason Samsung has refrained from using LTPO technology on its less expensive flagships for many years is increased costs. Sadly, Ice Universe has not confirmed if adding this upgrade will force the company to charge customers more for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus, but it is something that we will be sure to update our readers on, so stay tuned.
