Apple will eventually dive deep into the foldable market, for which it has display suppliers Samsung and LG to help reach its goal. The Korean manufacturer has a goal of its own, and according to the latest report, Samsung is reorganizing its entire display development team to help accommodate Apple as best as possible.
Samsung and LG are already said to be working on Apple products and have a 20.25-inch display being tested for an unknown device
The report from The Elec states that Samsung is pushing forward with a team restructuring as it wants to reach operational efficiency when it comes to future Apple foldable products. Since the Cupertino giant ships devices in the millions, it is an excellent opportunity for Samsung to capitalize on receiving the maximum number of orders and meeting demand to help increase its annual revenue.
LG is also said to be working with Apple, with both Korean suppliers reportedly developing a 20.25-inch panel, though its mass production timeline has not been mentioned. Then again, given the panel size, Apple can re-purpose it for an entirely new product, such as a foldable MacBook or iPad. Bear in mind that the report does not specifically mention which device this 20.25-inch display will be used in, but there are several possibilities, as previously stated.
Surprisingly, The Elec does not mention anything related to a foldable iPhone since this product range brings in the lion’s share of Apple’s revenue. We may see a foldable iPad before an iPhone since the high production volume of iPhones means that there can be several failure points, resulting in disgruntled customers and millions of devices being returned in exchange for new ones.
As for the iPad, we previously reported that the development of the foldable tablet is said to be in overdrive mode, and if everything goes according to plan, a launch in late 2024 is possible. Previous reports from notable analyst Ross Young estimate the foldable iPhone to be unveiled a year later, but knowing Apple and its propensity to adopt technologies after the competition, there is a high chance these products are delayed by an additional 12 months.
