Samsung has been up to a lot of tweaking when it comes to the dedicated Bixby button on its latest flagships - the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and the Galaxy Note 8. The South Korean giant has earlier pushed updates for the Bixby app that stopped users from remapping the button for other features than Bixby Voice. Many users even called the feature annoying as Bixby button was prone to getting pressed accidentally and waking up the assistant.

Samsung's rigid behaviour for Bixby button sparked a war between the development community and Samsung. The community released several workarounds to remap the Bixby button, but Samsung kept sending OTAs to squash all those tricks. After getting on with the war for a few months, in September, Samsung ultimately sent an OTA that allowed users to disable the Bixby button. But that update did not kill the button altogether, and users still had the choice to long press it and get Bixby into action even after disabling it.

Today, the company sent out another OTA that completely kills the Bixby button rendering it utterly useless on the device. So, now when Bixby button is disabled, there is no chance for it to wake up even when pressed longer. According to SamMobile, with the latest OTA, Samsung has also updated Bixby service that analyses saved contacts when Bixby is commanded to make a call. To update Bixby to the latest version, users need to head to the Galaxy Apps > My Apps > Update > Update All.

What's the point of having the Bixby button now?

Well, this makes us think that what is the point of having the Bixby button on Galaxy S8/S8+/Note 8 when it is rendered entirely useless when disabled. Maybe, Samsung needs to be a little lenient here and give freedom to the users to remap it.
