Samsung Message Guard Is A Galaxy S23-Exclusive Feature To Protect Against Malicious Images
May 19, 2024 9:34 PM

When you are talking about smartphone security, Samsung takes itself seriously. In the past, we have seen several attempts at making the overall experience smoother and more secure, and today, Samsung has introduced the Samsung Message Guard. This Galaxy S23-exclusive feature will protect users against malicious images that are received via text all the time.

Samsung Message Guard will protect your phone from being hacked via zero-click exploits by isolating the malicious images received through texts

Samsung claims that the Samsung Message Guard currently works on the stock app and Google Messages, and the purpose of this feature is to protect against the zero-click exploits that can be done by just sending a malicious image. This exploit is so dangerous because it does not require you to open any attachments. The moment you receive the malicious image, the hacker can access your phone immediately.

So how does the Samsung Message Guard work? Well, the feature isolates all the incoming image files whenever you receive a message with them and makes sure that they are isolated. This means that all the malware can now fail to gain access to your phone. It doesn't end just there; the isolated images are then screened, and according to Samsung, this feature “neutralizes any potential threat hiding in image files before they have a chance to do you any harm.”

At the time of writing, Samsung Message Guard scans images such as PNG, JPEG, GIF, ICO, WEBP, BMP, and WBMP image files.

Samsung has also mentioned that the Samsung Message Guard will not be limited to SMS apps as the feature will be coming to WhatsApp and many other third-party messenger apps. Another great news is that all Galaxy phones and tablets on One UI 5.1 will also get this feature later this year.

Samsung's dedication to tackling issues people face shows that the company truly cares about its consumers and aims to make a better, more secure software experience aside from its already excellent hardware.
