A lot of phones and other devices using Samsung's Exynos modem are under threat, and Samsung has decided not to do anything about it so far. Thanks to Google's Project Zero security research team, eighteen vulnerabilities were recently found in devices powered by Exynos chipsets. These vulnerabilities, if exploited, would grant hackers complete access to your phone and all the information within it simply by using your phone number. The security team published a detailed blogspot, confirming all the devices that are affected.

It has been 90 days since this discovery, and the number of phones affected by this ranges from Galaxy S, M, A series devices. Not just that, several wearables, as well as Vivo phones, are also vulnerable to attacks. Previously, Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 7 were also affected, but since then, at least the Pixel 7 devices have been patched in the recent March 2023 security update, while Pixel 6 users are still waiting.

Now, for those worried about Samsung's Galaxy S22, the exploit is only limited to the Exynos variant, which is not as widely available this time around. If you have a Snapdragon variant, you have nothing to worry about. As mentioned before, Pixel 7 phones have been patched, while Pixel 6 years are still waiting for the update to arrive. Sadly, there is no word on when the updates will start hitting the device for this exploit.

Thankfully, the team has given a simple solution that will help you avoid being attacked by potential hackers. All you have to do is turn off Wi-Fi calling as well as voice-over-LTE or VoLTE, and you are good to go. Again, I do know several people who use these features, but at the time of writing, we do not have a timeline as to when these vulnerabilities will be fixed.

As always, we would highly suggest turning off Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE until you have received the update, and ideally, it would be best if you keep checking to see whether the update has arrived for your device or not. Meanwhile, we will keep you posted as soon as these vulnerabilities are patched.
