Google recently released the first major update to Nougat. Android 7.1.1 introduces a handful of new features. Google plans to roll out Android 7.1.1 to Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One), over the next few weeks.

Prerequisites to root Android 7.1.1 NMF26F Nougat
Create a backupof all important data on your Nexus 5X / 6P.Download and installUSB driversfor Nexus onyour computer.Your Nexus device should beupdated to latest Android7.1.1 Nougat (guide and download links).TheNexus bootloadershould be unlocked.Enable USB debugging option by pressingMenu>Settings>Applications. Navigate and tap onDeveloper Optionsto enableUSB Debugging.Ensure that your Nexus carries more than 70% of charge.

How to root Android 7.1.1 NMF26F Nougat - Nexus 5X / 6P
Required files:
DownloadAndroid SDKand install it. Set it up withplatform-tools and USBdriverspackage inSDK.DownloadSuperSU v2.78for your Nexus device on your PC.Make sure to have acustom recoverytool like CWM, or TWRP:TWRP 3.0.2.0 (or3.0.2-2) for Nexus 6PTWRP 3.0.2-0(or3.0.2-2) for Nexus 5XAlso, downloadFastboot from the following links, depending on your OS andextract it inandroid-sdk-windows\platform-toolsdirectory. Create directory if not already there.Windows:DownloadMac:DownloadLinux:Download
Step 1:Connect your Nexus 6P or 5X toyour computer via USB.
Step 2:Copy and pasteSuperSuzip file to your device's SD card root folder.
Step3:Turn your Nexus off.
Step 4:Enter the Bootloader mode: poweryour Nexus on while pressing and holdingVolume Down+Powerkeys.
Step 5:Gotoandroid-sdk-windows\platform-toolsdirectoryand open Command Prompt (Shift+Right-click>Open Command Prompt) and type the following command:
Nexus 6P:fastbootflash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-angler.img- replace with twrp-3.0.2-2 if you used the latest recovery version.
Nexus 5X:fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-bullhead.img- replace with twrp-3.0.2-2 if you used the latest version
Step 6:Once done, enter recovery mode by choosingRecoveryfrom the Fastboot menu.
Step 7:In the recovery mode (CWM or TWRP - menu options will differ a little), scroll toflash zip from SD card>choosezipfromsdcard.
Step 8:Using the volume keys, locateSuperSU-v2.78-201609011115.zipfileand select it. Confirm the installation process.
Step 9:After installation is completed, go to+++++Go Backand reboot your Nexus device. First boot may take a few minutes.
Your Nexus device is now updated and rooted on Android 7.1.1 NMF26F. You can verify the root with any Root Checker app.
