Latest Rumor States Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book Will Come With Intel’s Kaby Lake Series of Processors

If you head to Amazon right now, Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 has been listed as the ‘OLD VERSION’. This suggests that the previous generation Skylake processors could be replaced with Intel’s Kaby Lake series of chips. Kaby Lake is manufactured on the same 14nm architecture as its predecessor, but with a better CPU design, Kaby Lake processors exhibit better performance and efficiency, which will give even better performance if Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book are refreshed.

If the rumor turns out to be true, it could also mean that Microsoft will reduce the pricing of its Skylake powered Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, making it a much more affordable solution compared to the Kaby Lake family. However, here’s the thing that’s confusing me right now; the current generation Surface Book came with a GTX 940MX, so what GPU is going to be present inside the refreshed Surface Book, assuming the rumor turns out to be true.

Looking at NVIDIA’s latest Pascal GPU architecture, they are able to cram in chips inside notebooks that deliver the same level of performance that you see on desktop gaming computers, so it will definitely be a treat to see a Surface Book featuring a Pascal GPU belonging to NVIDIA.
