Telstra, Optus Users Still Wait For Android 4.1.2 Jellybean For Samsung Galaxy S 3 (Australia)
Telstra, Optus Users Still Wait For Android 4.1.2 Jellybean For Samsung Galaxy S 3 (Australia)-May 2024
May 15, 2025 3:41 PM

Samsung Galaxy S III users based in Australia received the official Android 4.1.1 Update on their respective carrier between 2nd and 3rd December. However, as the Android 4.1.1 Jellybean was quickly escalated by Samsung to Android 4.1.2 JellyBean; the users are now patiently waiting for their OTA update to strike again. It is also worth mentioning that Android 4.1.2 Jellybean was released yesterday for the unlocked international Samsung Galaxy SIII. Apparently, the 4.1.2 update isn’t a security fix or a patch as it brings whole lot of goodies packaged for the SGS 3 users.

The Android 4.1.2 Jellybean update for the Samsung Galaxy S III users comes integrated with features like

Note II Gallery Application PortGroup CastSwype-Like Samsung KeyboardPage BuddySmart Rotation and heaps of extra OEM features that you might like your phone to have.

According to various sources located in Australia, all those with unlocked Samsung Galaxy S 3 have already received the Android 4.1.2 Jellybean official upgrade on their phones. However, ones trapped with various carriers, such as Telstra and Optus, haven’t received that update until now. It is widely believed that since many carriers like to fill different update rollouts with their own cookies and nagging bloatware, so it is apparent that it will take some time for the OTA rollout of the Jellybean to hit subscribers on Optus and Telstra.

According to some Telstra users, the carrier made a pledge to rollout the 4.1.2 Jellybean for their Galaxy SIII on 22nd November. But it seems that carriers are delaying it deliberately for reasons best known to themselves.

For those who already have root on their device and like getting first things first; a dedicated XDA thread is the right place for you to get the official firmware builds and flash them on your SGS 3 manually. In order to get your phone updated manually to Android 4.1.2 Jellybean official firmware, you will be required to have some insight of Odin and other handy flashing tools.

It is also important to remember that some updates are carrier specific and you might not get the right build until it is formally leaked or made available by the carrier itself. So far, the builds available on XDA are from OTAs that were pushed to international unlocked Samsung Galaxy S III. However, do keep an eye on the forum to see if the Australian, carrier specific build, gets in the hands of Android developers.
