When talking about platforms for short-form content, TikTok is easily the king. Sure, we have the likes of Reels on Facebook/Instagram, and YouTube has Shorts, but none of them have managed to dethrone TikTok. That is combined with the fact that the latter keeps adding new features that help not only the creators but also the users using the platform. Today, the platform has announced TikTok Series, a new way for creators to put their content behind a paywall. With the new change, creators will be able to make more money, which is always a good thing.

TikTok Series is a new way for creators to earn money and post longer videos of up to 20 minutes

As the name suggests, TikTok Series is a feature allowing creators to publish videos. The videos published will be part of a series or a collection, and the content will be locked behind a paywall. The interesting thing about this content is that creators can post longer videos. At the time of writing, the platform allows up to 10-minute videos, but with the new feature rolling out, creators can post videos of up to 20 minutes. Each collection can have up to 80 videos, and honestly, this new feature can allow creators to create short web series and publish them on their profiles.

It goes without saying that TikTok Series is definitely something that a lot of creators can benefit from. However, considering how the new feature can also be abused, the platform has decided to limit this feature to a few creators. The company has also talked about how it will expand the feature to more creators as it gains traction but has shared no detail as to when it will happen. In addition to that, the platform has also talked about how the Series feature is still relatively new, and therefore, it will be put under scrutiny, and based on the feedback it gets, changes will be made

With all that said and done, my opinion is that TikTok Series is definitely a step in the right direction and an interesting feature, to say the least. For the simplest reason that this is another solid way for creators to earn more money in the coming days. Of course, the platform plans on making this feature even better going forward, but even in its current stage, it looks like a promising addition. I can see a lot of interesting use cases for this new feature, including web series, a format of videos that has become a lot more popular over the course of a few years.
