WhatsApp Is Finally Bringing Local Chat Transfer For Easier Backup And Restoration Of Your Chats-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 7:44 PM

WhatsApp has steadily been adding new features to the app, improving it. While the app is still not as feature packed as some of its contemporaries, the platform is hard at work when it comes to bringing solid features that make the user experience better. A couple of days ago, we received an update that would allow you to use the same account on up to 4 devices, and today, we have a hint that local chat transfers are finally coming, which is good news.

WhatsApp users will soon be able to transfer their chats from one phone to another using just a QR code

Over friends at WaBetaInfo have reported that WhatsApp is currently working on a feature that lets you transfer chats between devices without relying on Google Drive. The Google Drive method works well, but it can be tedious if you change your phone often. In addition to that, the local transfer would be faster since it would not have to rely on the internet's speed to do that.

The feature was supported in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.9.19, but I am sure it will also be coming over to the iOS version. In addition to that, the source has also mentioned that feature is rolling out to select beta testers. This means that the company does want to bring it over. You will have to wait before you get access to it.

For those wondering, the feature is available in WhatsApp Settings > Chats. You can select that, scan the QR code, and you are good to go. Honestly, I do like this feature because it is a lot more convenient because Google Drive backup transfer, although is excellent, sometimes ends up being sluggish, which makes transferring your chats tedious.

At the moment, there is no word on when this feature will come out to the supported devices, but considering how it is currently rolling out to select beta testers, it is safe to assume that it is not that far. WhatsApp has been adding some really useful features lately, and this is just an excellent way of making sure that the user experience is only elevated.
