Why You Should Consider The iPhone 15 Over iPhone 15 Pro Without Worrying About The Telephoto Camera
Why You Should Consider The iPhone 15 Over iPhone 15 Pro Without Worrying About The Telephoto Camera-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 11:13 AM

Apple announced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus with a fair amount of improvements over the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. This year, the company could see sales improving for the standard models, considering the number of additions it brings to the table. If you have not pre-ordered your iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro model just yet, there is a neat little camera trick that Apple pulled off with the standard models. Before you make up your mind, check out why you should choose the iPhone 15 over the iPhone 15 Pro and not worry about the telephoto lens.

iPhone 15's 48MP camera makes room for 2x zoom without a telephoto lens, but should you get the iPhone 15 Pro?

Apple implemented differences in each model of the iPhone. The standard iPhone 15 model lacks a telephoto lens, the iPhone 15 Pro features a 3x telephoto lens, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a 5x telephoto lens. Henceforth, there are many options to choose from according to your preferences. Nonetheless, each model now features a 48MP camera that can take pictures with improved details and better low-light photography. However, the iPhone 15 models come with a nifty little trick that allows it to take 2x photos.

The iPhone 14 Pro can take up to 3x optical zoom photos with immense details. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus manage to take photos at 2x zoom, all thanks to the new 48MP camera that acts as a cropped sensor. The camera manages to capture more light compared to a telephoto lens, allowing for a crisp and detailed image. As for the resolution itself, the 48MP camera widens the margin of error and delivers a crispier image.

It is amazing how the iPhone 15 models pulled off 2x zoom without a telephoto lens. Ultimately, it all boils down to your preference of having a device with 2x, 3x, or 5x zoom capabilities. Since all models now come with Apple's Sensor-Shift Stabilization, the sensor will be able to take in more light without causing any distortions. In addition, with software optimizations, the image will be fine-tuned. If you want the iPhone 15 Pro because of its 3x telephoto lens, the standard iPhone 15 is worth your consideration.

Take note that we are only basing the comparison on the camera's zoom capabilities. If you are looking for a 'Pro' iPhone with an A17 Pro chip based on TSMC's 3nm fabrication, a ProMotion display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate, or a Titanium finish then the iPhone 15 Pro would be a better choice. You should also take note that the iPhone 15 Pro is about $200 more expensive than the standard iPhone 15. This will allow you to decide if the additional features are worth your extra bucks.
