The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is the best representation of a flagship that checks nearly all boxes, with a previous teardown showing the massive camera module, large cooling solution, and other components neatly placed or stacked on one another. This responsible arrangement of hardware paired with impressive thermals allows the flagship to beat the iPhone 14 Pro Max in a gaming stress test, according to tests performed by a YouTuber.
The strong thermal solution of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra means it maintains better performance than the iPhone 14 Pro Max, as shown in the stability test
The Chinese premium smartphone was compared against the iPhone 14 Pro Max by famous U.K.-based YouTuber Mrwhosetheboss. While there were numerous tests conducted, we wanted to focus on the performance category. When running Geekbench 6, A16 Bionic running in the iPhone was the superior chip, as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 had no answer in the CPU test. However, when stressing both handsets in the gaming test, things get interesting.
Keep in mind that the iPhone 14 Pro Max does not have an elaborate vapor chamber cooler, while the Xiaomi 13 Ultra relies on a proprietary solution that helps keep the temperatures under control. In fact, the Chinese giant previously claimed that its flagship can run up to two degrees cooler while recording 4K video at 60FPS. Coming to the Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, the iPhone 14 Pro Max loses performance faster than the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, leading to worse stability on Apple’s latest and greatest.

At the end of the test, it was the Xiaomi 13 Ultra that commanded better performance stability at 80.8 percent, with its lowest score being 2,999, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max had a poor 65.8 percent stability, with a score of 2,216. Since the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and A16 Bionic are mass produced on the same TSMC 4nm architecture, it is up to manufacturers to incorporate capable passive coolers to maintain high performance across various tests, allowing both SoCs to work their hardest without throttling.
Unfortunately, it appears that Apple skimped this area while focusing on other categories, a decision that Xiaomi avoided, thankfully. Mrwhosetheboss conducted more comparisons between the two flagships, and you will find them quite informational, particularly the camera, so check out the video above and let us know what you think.
