Since Qi2 is based on MagSafe, it means any charger that is not MagSafe-certified will still be able to deliver those maximum charging speeds.

Perhaps the biggest benefit for consumers is that the Qi2 standard will not require Apple’s expensive MagSafe module, meaning that several alternatives from various brands can launch in the market, and customers will not get bummed about paying extra for these accessories. According to MacRumors, the wholesale price of each MagSafe module is around $16, while the Qi2 module reportedly costs one-third as much.
