Google Apps are Being Flagged as Virus on Huawei Phones
Google Apps are Being Flagged as Virus on Huawei Phones-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 6:23 AM

It appears that Huawei phones are going through a strange bug in the global market where Google apps on the phones are being reported as viruses. This is not something that we have seen in the past, but apparently, the phones are flagging these apps as a type of trojan virus.

Your Huawei phone is not actually infected with a trojan virus despite the Google app throwing warnings

A user reported this issue on Google support that their Huawei P10 was showing the official Google app as a trojan, and following this incident, the user decided to delete the app and change all the device credentials, thinking that it was some sort of a virus attack. The user did clarify that they did not install any app on the device prior to this issue.

This post was only the beginning, as a lot of other Huawei users came forward reporting the same issue. Apparently, for some reason, the Google app running on the devices is being flagged for containing a virus called TrojanSMS-PA.

At the time of writing, this issue is only having an impact on all Huawei devices that are still running Google Mobile Services, and we don't really know why this issue is taking place in teh first place. The Google app on all other devices is working just fine, but the users have reported that this issue is happening because of the Optimizer app on the affected phones. Turning off the Optimizer app and making sure that the Google app does not get scanned seems to fix the issue.

Currently, this is the only way through which you can circumvent the issue, but the good news is that we don't seem to have any indication that this is actually a malicious virus that is trying to attack Huawei devices running Google Mobile Services. We will, however, keep a close eye on this issue and will keep you posted if we learn anything more about it.
