How to Share Your WiFi Password with Someone Else Running iOS 11-June 2024
Jun 16, 2025 12:04 PM

iOS 11 lets you share your WiFi password with an iPhone or iPad. Here's how it works in a few easy steps.

iOS 11 Makes it Super Convenient to Share Your WiFi Password with Friends and Family Members - Give it a Try Right Now

So, you have friends or family members at your place and obviously they want your WiFi password. How do you go about the situation? Tell them the password, of course. It's a tedious little process though. First you tell them which network you should connect to, then you proceed to explain how your password should be written, including all the capitals, numbers, underscores and whatnot. Sometimes, we don't expect guests over that's why we just throw in a password that is a little too embarrassing to share with others. Wouldn't it be great if you could just tell them which network you should connect to and everything else happens automatically?

Well, if you have a device that is running iOS 11 then that is absolutely possible. But of course, the person over at your place must have an iPhone or iPad running iOS 11 too. Bet you already knew that.

In order to get started with how this works, there are a few things everyone should know beforehand.

The person trying to connect to your WiFi network must be in your contacts list. If not, then there's no way you will move forward with this. You and the person connecting to your WiFi must have WiFi and Bluetooth radios turned on from the Settings app. This is absolutely crucial; even if one radio is turned off, nothing will work.If the other person has iOS 11, you can share your WiFi password using macOS High Sierra as well. Just make sure your WiFi and Bluetooth radios are turned on.

Tutorial

Assuming your are connected to your WiFi network with Bluetooth turned on and the other person in your contacts list here's what you should do.

1. Ask the person connecting to your WiFi network go to Settings > WiFi.

2. Assist the person in finding your WiFi network and just tap on it. They will be prompted to enter the password, obviously. Ask them to not do anything at this point.

3. On your iPhone or iPad running iOS 11 or even on your Mac running macOS High Sierra, you'll see a pop-up like the one below. Simply select Share Password.

WiFi Password

Just like magic, the other person will be connected to your WiFi immediately.

Cool, isn't it?
