MediaTek Possibly Teaming Up With NVIDIA, Bringing A New GPU Architecture To Its Next Mobile SoC
MediaTek Possibly Teaming Up With NVIDIA, Bringing A New GPU Architecture To Its Next Mobile SoC-February 2024
Feb 12, 2026 5:44 PM

MediaTek relied on ARM’s Mali GPU for its Dimensity 9200 Plus, and for better or for worse, that was the only choice the Taiwanese SoC maker had at this point, but according to the latest rumor, there is always going to be a second, and better alternative. NVIDIA is said to be teaming up with MediaTek, meaning that the next flagship smartphone chipset could sport a new GPU architecture.

No word if the upcoming Dimensity 9300 will adopt the new NVIDIA GPU, or if MediaTek is sticking with ARM for this generation

There is little information available to us at this time, but if a new report published by DigiTimes is to go by, NVIDIA’s and MediaTek’s new partnership will allow for a push into a new market. Previously, MediaTek was only considered for smartphone companies for their less expensive, non-flagship offerings, but ever since the Dimensity 9000 launched, it and its successors have given Qualcomm and Samsung a massive run for their money.

Earlier, according to a separate rumor, MediaTek was testing out its upcoming Dimensity 9300, which would compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and is expected to be mass produced on TSMC’s N4P process. What is interesting about the rumor is that the SoC is said to feature not one or two but four high-performance Cortex-X4 coresto deliver unrivaled single-core and multi-core performance.

Given MediaTek’s usual practice of sticking with ARM, we assumed that it was business as usual for the firm, using Mali GPU cores for the upcoming Dimensity 9300, but according to the latest report, we might be looking at a much-needed change. Current and past evidence shows that Qualcomm has always dominated the Android smartphone GPU segment with its Adreno range, and with the latest rumored partnership between MediaTek and NVIDIA, things might become extremely interesting.

Unfortunately, there is little information on what the name of the GPU will be, how many cores it will feature, and how potentially fast it can be against the current and future competition, so all we can do is speculate. Hopefully, in the fourth quarter of this year, when MediaTek and Qualcomm make their respective announcements of the Dimensity 9300 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, we will get to know more information regarding this elusive NVIDIA GPU architecture.
