Microsoft will finally retire Windows 10 version 1511 in about two weeks, after 29 months of support. The feature update was released back in 2015 and will receive its last security patches on April 10. While the support for Windows 10 Home users had ended earlier, the company extended support for Enterprise and Education customers from 18 to 24 months. This extension pushed the original October 17, 2017 end of support date to April 10, 2018.

"The additional servicing offer for Windows 10, version 1511 ends on April 10, 2018, and doesn’t extend beyond this date," the company said in its latest warning to clear rumors if the Windows maker will offer another extension to its enterprise consumers to help them in their transition. "To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10," the company added.

April 10 is also the date when Windows 10 Anniversary Update aka version 1607 will stop receiving support for Home and Pro users.Enterprise and Education consumers on Anniversary Update will still have an extra six months of extended support.

Earlier this year, Microsoft announced adding six additional months of support for all Enterprise and Education Windows 10 versions, including 1511, 1607, 1703 and 1709.The company will continue to support Home and Pro editions for 18 months after their release date. While Windows as a Service model was introduced as a pretty straightforward and easy to follow system, the change in support timelines has made it quite confusing for end users and the tech staff to follow when to update their Windows 10 machines to a newer version and when to install patches.
