While companies like Apple, Samsung, and Google are trying their best to revolutionize their smartphones in every way possible, there is a whole batch of smartphone manufacturers that, for some reason, is always focusing on how fast a phone can charge. We recently saw a reveal of 240W charging speed in a Realme phone, and now Redmi has beaten that with an insane 300W charging speed tech.
Redmi's 300W charging tech can fully charge your phone in less than 5 minutes, but how fast will it kill the battery?
The newest feat was announced on Weibo, and while there is no announced smartphone that supports 300W charging, Redmi modified a Note 12 Discovery Edition smartphone to demonstrate this technology. And it doesn't end there because in order to make this possible, quite a lot of work and added technology went into it. The matter materials had to be modified, along with the charging structure, and based on machine translation, the company also used "50 safety protection items" in the Double GaN adapter to finally hit the 300W mark.
As you would expect, 300W is a lot of power to charge a smartphone, and the Redmi phone managed to reach 50% in less than three minutes, with a 100% charge possible in less than 5 minutes. The company even shared a video that shows that the phone reaches a peak power of 290.6W, which is expected considering hitting a sustained 300W power could have caused some damage due to the difficulty of sustaining that amount of power.
Now, coming back to earth for a second. 300W charging speed is as impressive as it gets. However, Redmi claims to have used some additional tech to ensure everything is working as smoothly as possible. Yet, all of this power is ultimately bad for the phone itself.
Thankfully, Realme has not mentioned anything about bringing this technology to the mainstream. So, until that happens, we have a cap of 240W being the highest, which seems bonkers in itself, to be honest. A lot of us are more than happy with a max of 45W charging, but anything above that seems overkill.
We are not sure if we will ever see phones featuring 300W charging, but if you are interested in it, let us know what you think about such high charging speeds and whether it makes sense to you or not.
